Francesco Conti was born and grew up in Rome, Italy and now lives in London. His father was Italian, his mother is English. He trained as a scientist – specialising in molecular neuroscience and genetics. He obtained his PhD in London and then worked in research laboratories in Europe and America.
Francesco paints seemingly ordinary places and situations that are often overlooked, and which on closer inspection lead the viewer to question the story behind the subject represented. His recent work has focused on urban landscapes, interiors, and contemporary political and social events. He paints in both oils and acrylics, though the latter are his favourite medium, and he effectively uses these to capture light, mood, and build atmosphere.
