David Burns. My wall art is characterised by the elegance of porcelain clay and the forms and craftsmanship of slip casting. Each piece is designed, hand cast and fired in my home studio.
My journey to working with ceramics is unconventional. I have spent most of my working life as an electrician and lighting engineer and then a few years ago I had a couple of throwing lessons, which awakened a love and joy of working with this versatile material. My practical skills from being a tradesman are now being transferred to the making of moulds, assembling frames and installing my carefully crafted wall art.
Being part of a shared studio space in London provided me with considerable learning opportunities whilst working alongside a community of artists. This gave me the confidence to set up my own studio space where I now live.
